French graphic design studio Be Pôles is not only famous for its kraft paper bag, but also for various other inspiring design projects. One of their recent projects, City Portraits, is the perfect Christmas gift idea for the edgy boyfriend.
The idea to bring in Be Pôles’ new design project, “Portraits de Villes, Vues Choisies” (City Portraits), came from my friend Laurence, another blogger I know (Check out her blog “Garance et ses étoiles” here).
As a very visual person, I immediately fell in love with the concept of City Portraits. Here’s how it works.
Be Pôles has selected 25 major cities of the world (New York, Paris, Tokyo, Shanghai, Moscow, Los Angeles, Dubai, etc.) and assigned a well-known photographer to each one. Amongst them are Patrick Messina, Dina Goldstein, Harry Gruyaert, Jacques Borgetto, Evangelina Kranioti, Lina Scheynius, and Massimo Vitali, to name a few.
It is interesting to see how each photographer has treated his/her subject through the different photos. Each series of images or postcards reflects each photographer’s own perception of that city. It’s the city viewed through the eye of the photographer at one given place, at one given moment. Each city portrait is treated with a unique, specific angle that another photographer may not have chosen. As a result, some photos are black and white, while others are in colour. What unites them is that all the photos have been printed with this old, vintage filter that gives them an edgy, vintage touch.
There are many different ways to use these stunning images. You can display the postcards on a shelf/console, for example, or simply hang them on a wall using masking tape (or gold stickers as shown in the picture below).
Rather than going for the usual tie or shirt, why not give your boyfriend or husband this unique (and affordable) Christmas gift this year? You can make a selection of the different cities on STYLODECO here. Each set of 10 images/postcards is SGD$24.50. Happy Xmas gift shopping everyone!
