Two days ago I attended my first Frenchic workshop with Diane and Anne-Laure, the lovely girls behind Interior Design firm AD Concept. I discovered the secrets of Frenchic furniture paint as well as how to give a new life to a white shelf from Ikea. Follow me!

Some of you may have heard about Frenchic. The founders of Frenchic are English. One would have thought they were French but they aren’t! They launched their first collection in December 2014. There are now 45 different colours of paint, all so beautiful you would want to buy them all!

And there is more. Compared to a standard oil-based paint, Frenchic paint is awesome and much more interesting in many ways:

  • 100% natural (mineral only)
  • Non-toxic (no chemicals/solvents at all)
  • No smell
  • Forget about your usual oil-based paint which sticks to your fingers for days. Frenchic paint can be removed with… water and soap, in just a few seconds!
  • Affordable price
  • Can be used on almost every surface: wood, metal, laminate, even fabrics or toys as the paint is child safe (perfect for nurseries)
  • You only need to “lightly sand” your piece prior to painting (Mmmm, I actually did not sand it at all and it worked fine 🙂

Last Thursday at Anne-Laure’s place in Serangoon Gardens, we were of group of 6 ladies attending the workshop. Each of us either brought her own piece of furniture or was given one from Ikea (which we had chosen a few days prior to the workshop). One brought a pedestal table, another one a second-hand three-legged stool. There was also a small handmade stool and a two-step stool, together with two white cubes (shelves) from Ikea (I had one of them).

Check out the before/after pictures below – the reference of the paint used for each furniture is below the corresponding picture so if you like the colour, you can actually save it for an upcoming workshop or purchase it directly from AD Concept (details at the end of this post).

Anne-Laure and Diane were two fantastic teachers, going from one lady to another, sharing advice and useful tips. I had a great time and I will certainly attend a new workshop very soon!

Next week, I will show you my own “creation” bringing you through a step-by-step guide on how to paint a white piece of furniture from Ikea with Frenchic, and how to personnalise it, giving it a brand new life. Stay Tuned!
